About

Julius Caesar 183

It has four rooms and a shared kitchen, with breakfast served in the room and free Wi-Fi throughout. The set-up is closer to staying in a private apartment than to a conventional hotel.

Reviews return again and again to the same themes: a genuinely helpful owner, a spotless room and an address that makes Rome's biggest sights reachable on foot. The property's rating of 8.2 from 753 reviews is supported by high marks for facilities and staff, alongside a notably lower comfort score.

What works, what to weigh

Strengths

4 reasons to book
  • Made for a Vatican-focused trip — Guests put it within a three-to-six-minute walk of the Vatican and about three blocks from St. Peter's Square, with Ottaviano metro described as steps from the building.
  • A host who makes a difference — Alice Jin is mentioned by name across reviews as friendly, detailed and hands-on; she greets guests personally, answers questions and offers advice on seeing Rome.
  • Clean, spacious rooms with kitchen access — Reviewers describe the rooms as spotless and roomy, with high ceilings, and the shared kitchen adds flexibility for snacks and storing food.
  • A practical price for the area — The starting price of £78 per night plus the location led several guests to call it very good value for money.

Worth weighing

4 to weigh
  • Check-in times are not flexible — Arrivals are limited to 13:00–21:00, so late flights or long days out need to be planned around the window.
  • Shared, apartment-style facilities — This is a four-room B&B in an older residential building, not a full-service hotel. Guests share a kitchen, and at least one room configuration includes a shared bathroom.
  • Comfort scores well below the average — Guests rate comfort at 5.8 out of 10, while the overall rating is 8.2. Expect a homely, no-frills room rather than luxury appointments.
  • Value is the weakest category — The Value score of 7.7 sits below the hotel's overall 8.2. One guest explicitly notes it suits travellers on a budget who aren't expecting too much.

“Relatively quiet, with helpful staff, punctual room service, great location and good value. The double room was spacious and clean, with an ensuite and shared kitchen. The location was excellent — near the metro and a short walk from the Vatican, around three to six minutes. Communication with the owner was good, there was minimal noise in the ensuite, and the stay made our anniversary extra special. One of the best places we've stayed.”

“Alice Jin, the proprietor, is absolutely wonderful — friendly, helpful and clearly devoted to making guests comfortable. The B&B is immaculate and sits within a ten-minute walk of Vatican City, with the Ottaviano metro essentially steps from the door. I'd recommend Julius Caesar to anyone visiting Rome.”

8.2Verified guest

“The staff were very helpful and the location is genuinely convenient. The B&B has four rooms inside a section of an older residential apartment. Breakfast is self-catering, and each room gets a shelf in the fridge if you want to store your own food. Rome itself is a lovely city with plenty to see and do.”

8.2Verified guest

“A great location close to both the metro and the Vatican. Breakfast included lovely fresh croissants, the room was cleaned daily, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The room was quiet and the beds comfortable.”

“The place was clean.”

“Location is everything here. The B&B is a converted apartment in a building about 20 steps from the Ottaviano metro. Alice, the hostess, welcomed us like guests in her own home, showed us the room and the apartment amenities, and explained how the shared kitchen works. She gave us plenty of advice on what to see and do, then left us to come and go freely. It couldn't be better placed — three blocks from St. Peter's Square and surrounded by shops and restaurants.”
